Acronyms

Like jargon, we should avoid using acronyms altogether unless they help the reader.

Where acronyms are necessary, they should be explained on first usage.

Example:

This is a sentence about The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

Don't:

  • Use full points or spaces between letters.

  • Explain or include an acronym for an organisation if it only appears once in a story.
